Goldenfeast recalls exotic bird food blends for possible Salmonella contamination

Goldenfeast Inc. is recalling several exotic bird food blends due to possible Salmonella contamination from parsley flake ingredients supplied by Specialty Commodities Inc., an outside supplier to Goldenfeast. The recall involves the following Goldenfeast brands: Australian Blend, Bean Supreme, Caribbean Bounty, Gardenflora, Petite Hookbill, Schmitts Original, Basics Plus Finch and Basics Plus Parakeet.

Goldenfeast Inc. is recalling several exotic bird food blends due to possible Salmonella contamination from parsley flake ingredients supplied by Specialty Commodities Inc., an outside supplier to Goldenfeast. The recall involves the following Goldenfeast brands: Australian Blend, Bean Supreme, Caribbean Bounty, Gardenflora, Petite Hookbill, Schmitts Original, Basics Plus Finch and Basics Plus Parakeet.

On February 11, Specialty Commodities initiated a voluntary product recall of parsley flakes distributed to Goldenfeast on May 17, 2012, because the product may have the potential for Salmonella contamination.

Specific best-by dates and lot numbers can be found on the Food and Drug Administration's website. Recalled bird food products were distributed to retailers and distributors in the states of: Arizona, California, Colorado, Delaware, Florida, Illinois, Idaho, Indiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Texas, Washington, Wisconsin and Virginia, USA, and Canada.
