Corn is one ingredient that is seen as "bad" by consumers but is actually good: It has healthy fatty acids, protein, antioxidants, energy and it's highly digestible, according to Gill .

Williams stated that preservatives also aren't harmful and are even necessary in order to keep petfood safe.
