Earth Animal receives recognition

The Aquarion Environmental Champion Awards honors Earth Animal at a recent ceremony.

On June 1, 2024, the Aquarion Water Company hosted and celebrated Connecticut’s 2024 Aquarion Environmental Champion Awards during a ceremony at Connecticut’s Beardsley Zoo. Earth Animal was recognized as the winner in the Midsize Business Category. This marks the 14th year of the Aquarion Water Company’s Environmental Champion Awards, which honor organizations and individuals across large and small/midsize business, non-profit, adult, and student categories for:

  • Significantly contributing to the improvement of environmental quality through the protection, conservation, restoration, communication, and/or stewardship of natural resources (air, water, soils, plant, and wildlife communities)
  • Demonstrating high achievement levels
  • Creating sustainable or reproducible results

Founded in 1979 by Dr. Bob and Susan Goldstein, Earth Animal has consistently focused on improving the well-being of companion animals while reducing environmental impact. As a Certified B Corporation™ and a public benefit corporation, Earth Animal is committed to balancing shareholder interests with environmental, social, and governance performance. The company is proud to receive this recognition from Aquarion.

Dr. Bob and Susan Goldstein, Co-Founders of Earth Animal, expressed their gratitude: “It is an honor to receive the Aquarian Environmental Champion Award. Thank you to the Aquarian Water Company for this recognition and for spreading awareness about the importance of environmental sustainability.”

Earth Animal’s Commitment to Sustainability

Plastic-Neutral Initiatives:

  • As a certified plastic-neutral company and a founding donor and signatory of the Pet Sustainability Coalition’s Packaging Pledge, Earth Animal aims to transition all plastic packaging to recyclable, refillable, or compostable by 2025. The company is currently 95% of the way to this goal.
  • Sustainability is a core value and has been integral to Earth Animal since its inception.

Financial Contributions to Sustainability:

  • In 2018, Earth Animal committed to using 1% of annual net sales to support a more sustainable future and mission-driven organizations. Since then, nearly $1 million has been invested in environmental initiatives, with another million donated to purpose-driven non-profits.

Environmental Impact Initiatives:

  • For Earth Month, Earth Animal partnered with rePurpose Global to sponsor a beach cleanup, removing 50,000 lbs. of plastic from the coast of Colombia, a critical habitat for migrating humpback whales.
  • The company has integrated sustainable sourcing standards, developed a plant-based dog food and treats line, and transitioned 35% of its energy use to renewable sources in collaboration with local energy companies.
  • Earth Animal’s “From the Seed” food was the only pet food nominated in the Sustainability category at the Global Pet Expo, where it received an award for Best in Show.
