Norpel achieves PSC accreditation

Norpel achieves PSC accreditation.

Northern Pelagic Group is proud to announce its official accreditation with the Pet Sustainability Coalition (PSC). It will join a select group of businesses in a community of leaders in sustainability within the pet industry. This milestone acknowledges NORPEL’s eco-driven efforts and solidifies its commitment to positive environmental and social practices. NORPEL remains ambitious and optimistic in its drive for continual progress.

NORPEL has grown with environmental consciousness since entering the pet food industry in 2014. The company has been deliberate in its operations and plans to promote sustainability across its network. Further, the company has found success and growth opportunities in promoting products from raw material producers with the highest standards.

“NORPEL continues to connect sustainable proteins to pet food brands so that pet parents can feel better about the proteins their pets eat,” explained NORPEL’s chief commercial officer, Michael Tierney. "We continue to find success in promoting sustainable seafood proteins and now have a wide offering of products of both land and sea proteins from across the globe, from producers big and small.”

The Massachusetts based company is now dedicated to sustainable initiatives outside of procurement. It joined the PSC in 2021 with the objective of strengthening its eco-initiatives across the board.

"The ideals of environmental and social responsibility remain a core component of NORPEL’s identity,” said Tierney. “Our entire team is excited to continue this chapter with Pet Sustainability Coalition and extends its appreciation to PSC for its crucial and hard work in creating a better world for pets, consumers, and industry workers.”

From 2021, NORPEL and the PSC continue to find ways to work together. The accreditation was the natural next step for NORPEL.

"PSC Accreditation is the only one in the pet industry that recognizes those companies that have concrete sustainability measures built into the company DNA. Companies must complete rigorous third-party verification of sustainable business practices in alignment with the UN's Sustainable Development Goals, meet minimum performance requirements, and demonstrate annual improvement to retain their accreditation. These top performers demonstrate true leadership in the industry with transparency and integrity,” wrote Hannah Tirrell-Wysocki, accreditation manager at PSC.
