California Dog Kitchen announces launch of organic pet food

California Dog Kitchen offers USDA-certified organic dog food.

California Dog Kitchen, a family-owned pet food company focused on fresh dog food made from organic and wild meats, announces the launch of the first USDA-Certified organic fresh dog food for the independent pet retail market. The new Organic Chicken and Quinoa recipe is made with Mary’s Organic Chicken as the main ingredient and is the latest addition to California Dog Kitchen’s unique line of gently cooked dog foods.

California Dog Kitchen created its new certified organic line for dog owners concerned with the carcinogenic pesticides in most common dog foods. The company partnered with Organic Certifiers in Ventura, Calif. to achieve its certification and plans to release a second formula using another protein later this year. As the fresh pet food market gains momentum with nearly 24% of projected annual growth for the next five years, California Dog Kitchen leads the pack with its locally sourced ingredients and sustainable packaging and sourcing. The new Organic Chicken and Quinoa recipe will cost consumers $12 per pound–just 6% above the category average.

“We’re excited to provide independent pet retailers the first certified organic fresh dog food option on the market,” said Sasha and Ilya Altshteyn, brothers and co-founders of California Dog Kitchen. “This new recipe lets people feed their dogs as equals, which is exactly why we started this journey: providing dogs the sustainable, nutritious food they deserve.”

In addition to its newest offering, California Dog Kitchen provides a range of formulas and flavors to meet many tastes, like Wild Venison and Zucchini, and Wild-Caught Fish. The Chicken and Rice recipe is one of the most affordable, gently cooked options on the market. All formulas use locally sourced ingredients and are steam-cooked in the company’s own commercial kitchen in San Diego.

The food is formulated in collaboration with veterinary nutritionists and lab-tested to verify that it meets AAFCO and NRC dog food standards. California Dog Kitchen offers its products in compostable paper packaging and donates 1% of sales to environmental non-profits. California Dog Kitchen’s Organic Chicken and Quinoa recipe is now available alongside the company’s existing SKUs at more than 80 independent pet retailers on the West Coast.
