Sonoco opens new metal packaging facility

The 11,000-square-foot building features modern laboratories, prototyping equipment and training rooms.

Sonoco, a global leader in sustainable packaging, has opened its new multi-million-dollar Technical & Engineering Center for Metal Packaging in Columbus, Ohio, U.S.

The 11,000-square-foot facility features modern laboratories, prototyping equipment, training rooms and collaboration spaces. This center highlights Sonoco's commitment to advancing sustainable metal packaging solutions and offers a centralized hub for design, technical support, process development, engineering and training, said the company.

"Our new center will foster even greater collaboration and productivity in a unified workspace where Sonoco will bring together can makers, brand owners, industry suppliers, and scientific partners to harness the latest advances in technology and deliver greater value to our customers.”

Sonoco is a leading manufacturer of sustainable metal packaging for food and beverage products and one of the largest aerosol can producers in North America. The new facility will enable Sonoco to enhance its offerings in:

  • Package Performance & Integrity Testing
  • Real-time Shelf-Life Testing
  • Electrochemical Corrosion Testing

Additionally, the center will provide customized training opportunities to accommodate large groups, facilitating comprehensive education on can manufacturing processes to accelerate production ramps, increase throughput and improve quality.
