Purina launching climate-friendly initiative

Kinetic energy from pet and human footsteps will be converted into renewable electricity.

Purina is launching Pet Power, an innovative initiative aimed at harnessing the boundless energy of pets to produce renewable electricity. This new activation features a renewable electricity-producing walkway that utilizes Pavegen's smart flooring technology. Each step taken by pets and their owners on this walkway generates about three joules of electricity.

Key Highlights:

  • Innovative Technology: The Pet Power activation uses Pavegen's smart flooring technology to convert the kinetic energy from pet and human footsteps into renewable electricity
  • Purpose: This initiative aims to raise awareness about renewable electricity and aligns with Purina's sustainability strategy
  • Event Locations: The Pet Power walkway will be showcased at various pet-friendly venues in St. Louis through the end of September. The first stop is at Bar K St. Louis from July 13-31, followed by Purina Farms, the Great Forest Park Balloon Race and the APA Canine Carnival
  • Energy Collection: The energy generated will be stored in batteries, which Purina will donate to the APA Adoption Center
